The First Fearless Brief Challenge
The First Fearless Brief Challenge or The FFB Challenge is a unique initiative to help young passionate advocates (with 1 – 5 years of experience) build their ethical criminal law practice through direct, hands-on experience. This challenge is open to advocates practicing in Delhi who meet the eligibility criteria* to qualify as ‘Challenger’.
The concept is simple:
- The Challenger walks into any magistrate’s court & observes the proceedings.
- When an unrepresented accused arrives, volunteers to represent the accused.
- Convinces the magistrate to assign the case to him/her (instead of legal-aid).
The Challenger gets 7 days to fulfil the challenge. Successful Challengers will then be paired with Mentors – seasoned criminal lawyers with decades of trial court experience – who will guide (not spoon-feed) them through the entire case, whenever guidance is sought by them.
Important: Advocates who already have a trial/bail matter, can also apply for the FFB Challenge. If they meet other criteria to be a Challenger the requirement of getting a case from a magistrate’s court may be waived, on a case-to-case basis.
The aim is twofold:
- To give young lawyers a real courtroom baptism into ethical, skilful criminal practice.
- To build a network of advocates committed to justice, empathy, and integrity.
Some careers begin with a corporate desk; some begin with a handshake in a chamber. Yours can begin by standing up for someone who has no one, and earning your first fearless brief.
