Trijus is a bold, urgent initiative to bridge the trust and talent deficit that ails India’s criminal justice system. We believe that every person – regardless of their financial or social capital – deserves ethical & competent legal representation.

Yet, when ordinary people get trapped in the legal-web, they either play blind, or reach out to a distant relative who happens to know a lawyer, or worse, engage the lawyer recommended by the very cop who arrested them! No wonder they get betrayed, and in the process lose trust in not just that one advocate but also develop a general mistrust towards all advocates.

On the other side stand thousands of young, passionate and principled advocates who want to build their careers in criminal law with integrity but face a wall of mistrust. Many give up too soon. Those who persevere often struggle for years as they lack lineage and mentorship. They yearn for guidance at crucial stages of a trial by a mentor having a solid hands-on experience, empathy and integrity.

This mentorship will also inspire bright and upright law graduates from top law schools – who at the moment find it safer to pursue Corporate or Civil law – to choose criminal litigation as their calling, infusing it with fresh talent, intellectual rigour, and moral credibility.

Trijus is a platform that connects the three threads:

  • Accused persons (or victims) with limited means, who often struggle to access effective, affordable, and trustworthy representation.
  • Young advocates who aspire to build an ethical criminal law practice but lack lineage and mentorship.
  • Mentors: experienced criminal law practitioners who want to contribute to the society meaningfully, and leave behind a legacy.

Together, they form the living fabric of Trijus – tri for three, jus for justice. We exist to rebuild trust in the criminal justice system – one case, one advocate, one act of integrity at a time.
